Question:

One largsbrain eeed me direct.  It is the ketogenic diet. Blessed are the flexible, for they shall never get bent out of shape!

Response:

In the last two years I heard about a Hollywood producer(?) whos son suffered from this.  He researched and found that an extremely high fat diet controlled his son’s seizures.  This diet was developed by a man (?)(md) many years ago.  His ideas were ignored by the establishment. After he died, a female colleague kept his work going. She is up in age, now    I saw this on 2020 (or Dateline) in the last two years.  I know this isn’t much, but perhaps some of the largebrains in this ng will remember more!!!     Best wishes,        VVM Blessed are the flexible, for they shall never get bent out of shape!

We are looking for help on our child who is 1 year old and has had 6 episodes of seizures since 5 1/2 months of age.  All tests are negative and Doctors are continuing to prescribe phenobarbital and dilantin.  Seizures seem to be triggered by "low grade" fevers and respiratory congestion.  We are looking for a support group of other parents who have experenced the same situation in an attempt to learn more. Thank You. Joe

I have never experienced this with my children.  Sounds frightening.  I have a very old book written by Adele Davis "Eating Right to Keep Fit"  she supports with medical studies.  There is a whole chapter in the book re:  Magnesium (the overlooked and undertaken mineral.)  She writes about people even with Grand Mal seizures benefitting from extra magnesium.  Calcium/Magnesium are critical to bodily functions on a daily basis.  While we may drink enough milk for Calcium, there is no Magnesium in milk.  Adele Davis says the proper ratio is 2:1 ex:  Calcium 500 mg, Magnesium 250 mg.  When you get Calcium and not Magnesium,  more magnesium is flushed from the body.  Milk, our main source of calcium is well know to be a big cause of allergies, which causes excess mucous hence congestion.   Since this is a serious matter, I would highly recommend you follow this thread and learn what you can before administering yourself. Yoghurt (with live cultures) may be a better source of Calcium.  Again, NO Magnesium in yoghurt.   Adele Davis believes our ‘Civilized Western Culture’ leaves our diets Magnesium Deficient. Hope this gives you somewhere to look.  I know how frustrating it is to be sick and the MD says there is nothing physically wrong! Oh my, I forgot to mention how remiss the Formula companies are in adding Magnesium in the proper ratio to Calcium to Infants formulas.  I have been meaning to write them regarding studies on this important mineral.  Magnesium does have an effect on nerve transmission, therefore Brain function. ‘Call me interested in how my body works.’ Linda in VA

I have often seen children suffering from neurological deficits of all kinds whose births were very difficult (this includes breeches).  In these cases, subluxations of the upper cervical spine have been found to be immediately evident.  After correction of the subluxation, these children oftentimes return to a normal healthy life.  For more information about this, please refer to http://members.tripod.com/~DrSugi/index.html .      Who can correct such a problem?  Only Doctors of Chiropractic have the education and training in the reduction of subluxations.  For referral to someone in your area who definitely can help, please contact me.
