Dog walks and I hear clicking noise

Question:

That would happen to our cat years ago.  She liked to jump up on top of bi-fold closet doors.  When she jumped down, you would hear the click.  She would limp and it would click.  I took her to the vet.  He "set" something with her "knee", like a chiropractic adjustment.  They knee has not clicked since.  I don’t remember, but I think it was something like the kneecap was out of place. -Andy

Hi there, Unfortunately my dog is still clicking.  She does not appear to be in any pain.  She still jumps on the bed and on the couch.  She is a little spoiled.  :) She does have a vet appt. tomorrow afternoon.  I will leave a post as to what I find out. Lyn

Response:

Lyn, a friend’s long haired doxie has a clicking sound when he moves, too. The vet says it’s a socket that doesn’t fit snugly. Best wishes, Annette

Hi group, I was wondering if anyone had experienced this before with their dog.  My chow chow is almost 9 yrs old and lately when she walks I can hear a clicking sound.  She is not in any pain.  Or at least any pain I can see. Lyn

Response:

Yup. Your dog has found the clicker and is now clicker training you. She doesn’t seem to be in pain because she’s laughing her butt off inside. (sorry, couldn’t resist)

Hi there,     It could be just as simple as your dog’s nails being too long, but it could be something more serious.  Please see a vet about this, or at least call yours to ask for their opinion.  Good luck. -Denise

The clicking noise I hear is definitely bones.   Lyn

Response:

No it is not nails because I am hearing this on the carpeted floors too. Lyn

It could be some kind of dislocation or dysplacia. Have you noticed any limping or strain jumping or standing up?

Response:

Or possibly tendons.  Somewhere I heard that tendons which are dry or not properly stretched can make this sound.  If you have ever been in a ballet class, the first grand plea (sp?) of the day usually produces these sounds from several people in the class.
