Amino Acid Therapy
Question:
Hi All! My doc thinks I might have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Has anyone used any sort of amino acid therapy? Has anyone had any blood testing to measure amino acid levels done? What amino acids, if any, have you taken? With what results (good and bad)? Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated!! Please cc: all replies to my email address as well. Thanks!

One person who suffered from CFS wrote an article that their CFS was helped by using L-Lysine supplements. One commercial company, Quantum [1-800-448-1448], makes a good L-Lysine product, Super Lysine Plus. Call Quantum for their literature including the article. Vitamin Shoppe [1-800-223-1216] in NYC sells this product by mail order discount. .. End of message ___ Blue Wave/386 v2.30 [NR]

Three months ago, I took a heavy 12-day course of Predizone to treat a terribly painful bursitis. The med worked like a charm, I had relief in about 12 hours, but I’ve been dealing with side effects ever since. On day 7, things started getting scary. Racing thoughts, pounding and irregular heart beat, and several lesser problems. I gain a lot of weight, and it’s still with me. What’s concerning me the most is swelling in my lower legs and ankles which started on day 9 and has never left. Yes, I have been back to the MD who prescribed the darn stuff to begin with and she states it might take a couple more months to get rid of the weight and the swelling. Any suggestions will be most welcomed, and any clue as to what is causing this swelling of the lower extremities would be most appreciated. Jennifer

I thought I had already written you as your address sounds familiar. Yes, amino acid therapy does indeed do wonders for CFS as proven in a study by Dr. Andy Bralley, a biochemist who is in charge of Metametrix Laboratories in Norcross, GA. I myself have been on AA therapy for my CFS and I assure you the results are terrific! After Metametrix did serum AA studies, a proper formulation of AAs based on my needs was determined. I am no longer needing this therapy now that my liver is able to once again assimilate amino acids due to the combination of of amino acid replacement and chiropractic care, which relieved the subluxations causing my liver to function at less than optimum. An FDA approved clinical study of the amino acid Tyrosine taken with NADH and a B-vitamin complex was very successful, I think. I may have some details wrong but the last issue of the CFIDS newsletter has a whole page on it with good information. I don’t know where this leads next. Take care. Paul

FDA approves clinical studies? — David Wright :: wright at ibnets.com :: Not a Spokesman for Anyone These are my opinions only, but they’re almost always correct. "The daily floggings will continue until morale improves."

They used to just review the results of studies, but often found that the study protocol was too poor to prove anything. So now, if requested, they will review the plan (protocol) of the clinical study before it is started to see if it is good enough to prove anything. E.G. per pg. 54 of the CFIDS & Fibromyalgia Health Resources Spring 1998 newsletter: "Results of an FDA-approved study conducted at Georgetown U…" Take care. Paul
