So thoughtful

Hmm… well, after I dug it out from the person who was sitting ON it (thinking it was part of the sofa?) in the the other room, I handed it to her, and explained she might find it easier to play than the Silver Sparkly G&L ASAT, which is nice, but the 32" scale, Light strings and low action on the Urge just makes it soooooooooo easy.
In fact, when I could no longer play my 40lb. Thumb bass, and my wrist and fingers were telling me I’d never play again, I bought the Urge. It’s just that easy to play. I was well chuffed when this guy in an orange > vest (Mark… who was this guy?) was starting a jam session and out of all > the basses that were there, chose to play mine.
Lesse, a guy who is a stranger, hadn’t played in YEARS, walks into the jam, with JT playing a double neck 7 string, over looks all the botique crap, and grabs the familiar, yet pretty Warmouth, with flats. Pretty good praise/acid test I’d say. Now… about his wardrobe…
I bet he owns a purple tank-top by weeks end
By the way, my brother says "Nice write-up. She said such nice things about you… good thing she met the nice brother
", so thanks for the kind words

Chiming in for PL… Those were brand new TI Jazz flats. I put those on Wednesday night and barely got it in tune before I set it down. It got stuffed into a gig bag on Thursday night and didn’t emerge until the BS. They did sound sweet. I wasn’t sure if flats were going to work well on an active bass like that. You sure made it sing. I’m glad some more folks who contributed got to check it out. That would include thus far Rankin, Steve Renshall, you (xush), Brian, Rob and me. Laurie goes way back with us. They still tease me ‘unmercilessly’ about the time, back when Laurie and Tammy had the same hairstyle and color, we were camping and I sidled up behind Laurie and put my arms around her waist and squeezed. I think it was embarrassing for everybody… anyway, she lives with some friends of mine now and there’s a bass I sold him in the house, and I guess she’s been tinkering with it. I figured she’d get a kick out of the summit, and she did! After almost everyone had left, I found her playing Rob’s Urge. That dang 7 nation Army song is still stuck in my head!

And what about that turtle, huh?! It’s still alive. Folks, (wayyy OT… more bass stuff below…) , but we now have a pet. On the way back to Bud’s mom’s after the summit, I called her to say that we were on our way home. She had been looking after Kurtis for the day and had taken him to see some animals. She said that he had wanted a puppy – I nearly freaked and said, "You didn’t…?" No, she didn’t… she got a baby turtle instead! /rolls eyes. The poor thing travelled all the way back with us in a little plastic container and I had to put it in my thermal lunch bag and carry it into Craker Barrel when we stopped for lunch – it would have baked in the car. It’s now living in a big glass bowl with my big piece of amythest, turned upside down, for it to bask on. It’s quite sweet really – he pokes his head out of the water and watches me when he thinks I’m not looking. Then when I look at it, he ducks under the water. I took it for a walk yesterday – it kept walking across my hands – it must have walked a mile! Bud says if I can keep it alive for two weeks then I can spend some money on it – buy a nice habitat etc. Anyhoo… > Thanks for the pic of Laurie playing my Urge.

You’re very welcome. I think Brian enjoyed fondling PL1 too – I’m sure we’ll find out when he gets home. I was well chuffed when this guy in an orange vest (Mark… who was this guy?) was starting a jam session and out of all the basses that were there, chose to play mine. He jammed with JT on the double necked bass and that session sounded fenomi… phenome… excellent! http://altguitarbass.com/bsiv/pics/BSIV0017.JPG That particular sesh was filmed, so hopefully we’ll all get to see it again. — PLL’C

> Hey Linny, > You got to admit that Zon feels pretty solid, doesn’t it? >
Yes it did, even though I didn’t really get to play it, I just fannied around with it unplugged. There had been a spate of picture taking and all I heard was, "Linny, grab a bass and get in the picture", and Rob’s Zon seemed like a smart move. I played the Hyperbass at last year’s summit – that was a freaky experience, but gave me a good idea of the class. I recall that the general consensus was that Zon is cool, but some people just dig their heels in a tad… on principle

Hey bro… thank you very much. I missed y’all as well… had planned to be there. Unexpectedly, we buried my beloved grandmother on Saturday while all the fun was going on
Family arrived from all directions, from all around the country to pay their last respects to a very special lady, a lady that will be sorely missed. In fact, it was SHE who encouraged me to play while my parents, friends, and brother all told me it was a "hobby" not to be confused with a "job". Turned out, she was the one that was right in my case, and if it weren’t for her, I’d have not enjoyed an entire decade of knowing what it feels like to do NOTHING ELSE, but to play music and pay all my bills doing it. She could sing like a bird, even in her mid 80’s, could play harmonica, could play guitar. It WAS an awesome day! Yes, Brian is even taller than me… which grabs even my 6′2" of attention! Mark and Tammy did a great job of making sure everyone was happy and comfy. Space Cowboy was just cool as hell. Bud and Linny… thanks for the lodging. It makes me smile to remember Kurtis.
Thanks for the pic of Laurie playing my Urge. Mark, you should have tried the f’less. It’s wayyyy nicer than the fretted Z. My sternum still hurts from the heft of the double-neck, I may have displaced a rib or two, but who can pass up the chance to try on a bass that Stanley Clark tried. Not I. It was a bit intimidating hearing JT and the others tearing up Rush covers lick for lick for nearly… well, dang… I can’t play even one of their songs all the way through, so… I WAS IMPRESSED. If I could have thought of a single song, I would have jammed, but alas… nyet. Ted, sorry to taunt… you would have had a blast. Also… Bud and I both agree that the basses we had brought, and own, felt and played the best. All that candy, but no place like home
Playing the PL-1 was also an honor. Thanks Girl! -rob kloka (via google)

From what I remember I thought it was a nice bass. Is that bass passive? Really big and round sounding from what I can remember, almost acousticy. I *ain’t* no fretless player, I ain’t no 5-stringer and I think I messed up Space Cowboy’s version of "Wet Pants" (the pic of Brian, SC and me). The same thing went through my mind occasionally, but then you just start having so much fun that you forget about your own perceived inadequacies…and I don’t think there was anyone with an ‘attitude’ among the bunch. Very humble and appreciative and generous, to the last person. Now, some folks ain’t crazy about the 7′ers, and the Wishy and my FBB’s might get some funny looks, but it was all about sharing and experiencing and enjoying, and I think everybody felt that. Man, I can almost smell the patchouli… One of the best parts to me was that even some of the newer/less experienced players would jump in there on the jams and just have fun. That’s the spirit! > A question: BSIV was held in a studio, so would there, could there, maybe > kinda sorta be some clips us less fortunate ones could listen to? Yeah, you’d think so wouldn’t ya…but it didn’t play out that way unfortunately. I’m surprised there’s even any pics to tell you the truth. We all get to having too much fun to remember stuff like that. We pretty much cleaned the rooms out as much as possible, to make room for all the bass goodies, and just didn’t have it set up to record. Maybe next year… wait a minute! Just realized… they taped it for broadcast. I think they had audio with this particular camera… I definitely remember seeing some of the tunes getting videotaped. Might be on to something here. I’ll get to tracking him down… m www.xush.net
