Conventional oncologists often fail to recognize that most cancers have already metastasized to other sites in the body by the time the primary tumor is diagnosed. The Life Extension Foundation’s cancer treatment protocol incorporates a wide range of therapies designed to boost immune function, inhibit cancer cell division, induce cancer cells to differentiate into mature cells, inhibit the ability of cancer cells to metastasize, prevent angiogensis, and modulate the effects of hormones on cancer cell growth. Conventional oncologists deal with tumor metastasis by applying whole body cytotoxic chemotherapy, which aims to kill the metastasized tumor cells. However, chemotherapy also destroys immune function, thereby condemning the cancer patient to the likelihood of recurrence of the primary tumor or other cancers, along with infections, often leading to death. If the immune system is unable to recognize and destroy metastasized cancer cells, than the chances of achieving a permanent remission are remote. In the 30 years that cancer chemotherapy has been used, it has proved effective for relatively few cancers. The cancers that chemotherapy can benefit include testicular cancer, choriocarcinoma, Hodgkin’s disease and some forms of leukemia and lymphoma. For the majority of cancers, however chemotherapy has been a failure. Conventional oncology has failed to recognize that cancer is a systemic, whole body disease. This misconception causes conventional oncologists to continue to use immune system-destroying chemotherapy inappropriately. When cancer is first diagnosed, the primary tumor is often too large for immunotherapy to be effective by itself. In these cases, conventional cancer therapy (surgery and/or radiation) is often necessary to eradicate the primary tumor. However, surgery and radiation put tremendous stress on the body that severely weakens immune function and can put the body into a catabolic (wasting) state that leads to noticeable weight loss. Total Nutritional Support is needed to mitigate the damaging effects of surgery/radiation therapy. Unfortunately, conventional cancer therapy seldom includes any kind of nutritional support. We, therefore, include a Total Nutritional Support program in our CANCER TREATMENT Protocol. At this time, The Life Extension Foundation does not have a good alternative for conventional therapies when it comes to large primary tumors. Even the advanced therapies used at offshore cancer clinics are usually not potent enough to shrink large, primary tumors. One alternative therapy that is being used at cancer clinics to attack a primary tumor is high doses of pancreatic enzymes. Cancer patients are given 40-to-70 420 mg. of pork pancreas enzyme capsules throughout the day for the first month, and lesser amounts in subsequent months. Pancreatic enzymes have been shown in some studies to "digest" primary tumors. The effectiveness of high-dose pancreatic enzyme therapy varies widely from patient to patient. It is crucial for cancer patients to monitor the effectiveness of any cancer therapy they are using under the care of a physician, preferably an oncologist. Blood tests should be done monthly that measure tumor markers in the blood and measure the effects of immune-boosting therapies on specific immune components of the blood. Dr. Emil Schandl’s CA Profile (Cancer Profile), which has an excellent track record for more than ten years, is strongly recommended. We cannot overemphasize the importance of monthly blood testing for all cancer patients. Every patient responds differently to both conventional and alternative cancer therapies. The results of blood tests provide critically important data to evaluate the effectiveness of these therapies. Some of the blood tests commonly used by doctors to evaluate different types of cancers are: Type of Cancer                Blood Test Ovarian cancer                CA 125 Prostate Cancer               PSA Breast Cancer                 CA 27-29 and CEA Colon, rectum, liver, pancreatic,       CEA, CA 19-9, GGTP stomach and other organ cancers     Leukemia, Lymphoma,                Immune Cell Differentiation and Hodgkin’s Disease              and CBC with differential In order to assess the effectiveness of immune-boosting therapies, a complete Immune Cell Subset test could be performed bi-monthly in order to measure: CD4 (T-Helper) Total Count CD4/CD8 (T-helper to T-Suppressor) ratio NAK (Natural Killer Cell) Activity. While you may have to rely on conventional cancer therapy to treat a primary tumor, immune-boosting therapies improve the chances of bringing metastasized cancer cells under control. Immune-boosting therapies include drugs such as isoprinosine, thymic hormones in products such as Thymex or Thymus Standardized Extract, the adrenal hormone DHEA, and melatonin, both of which boost immune function via several mechanisms of action. Some doctors are under the impression that ovarian cancer, leukemia, Hodgkin’s disease, and lymphoma patients should avoid melatonin until more is known about its effects on these forms of cancer. If melatonin is tried in these types of cancer, tumor blood markers should be watched closely (e.g. if melatonin causes the CA-125 marker to go up in an ovarian cancer patient, it could be a sign that melatonin is promoting tumor growth). The scientific literature, on the other hand, suggests that melatonin warnings are appropriate for multiple myeloma, rather than ovarian and immune cancers, meaning that melatonin may not be contraindicated in ovarian, leukemia, and lymphoma patients. Those with prostate cancer should avoid DHEA. Generally, it is a good idea to to use any hormone with caution under the direction of a competent physician. Melatonin may be the single most effective alternative cancer therapy because it boosts immune function, suppresses free radicals, inhibits cell proliferation, and helps to change cancer cells into normal cells. Nutrients that have an inhibitory effect on cancer cell proliferation include vitamin A (and synthetic vitamin A analogs), and phytochemicals found in cruciferous vegetables (Phyto-food) such as sulforaphane, 3-indole-carbinol and isothiocyanate. Soy contains numerous anti-cancer agents such as gensitein and other isoflavones. Vitamin D3 inhibits cancer cell growth and induces cancer cells to differentiate into normal cells. The best example of the effectiveness of vitamin A and beta-carotene in inhibiting cell proliferation is in patients with cancer of the mouth. Vitamin A or beta-carotene supplementation puts most forms of early stage mouth cancer in remission as long as these nutrients continue to be consumed. The Foundation’s Cancer Treatment Protocol is for most forms of cancer, including metastasized prostate cancer. This protocol assumes that the patient’s primary tumor has been eradicated (at least partially) by surgery or some other treatment, however, it may be followed even if the primary tumor has not yet been eradicated. Here is The Life Extension Foundation’s Cancer Treatment Protocol: STEP ONE: ARRANGE FOR MONTHLY BLOOD TESTS TO INCLUDE: 1) Tumor Marker Test (Type of cancer dictates type of test used. Some cancers do not have a specific tumor marker test available, however, the CA Profile is not organ specific and has been shown to be effective in monitoring the progression and regression of cancer. 2) Immune Cell Subset Test (this is an expensive test) 3) Complete blood chemistry to … read more »

RE: HELP! Treatment for Sarcoma Patient A 70 years old male patient suffering from high grade Leiomyosarcoma (soft tissue sarcoma) is looking for treatment that may control the growth of the tumour. The rare tumour originated from the prostate and was diagnosed a year ago. He had his prostate gland removed and had been treated by radiotherapy. However, the tumour has continued to grow rapidly and is now more than 5 cm, spreading into the pelvic bed. No distant metastasis was detected in lung or bone at present. The patient starts experienced some pelvic pain now but generally well. He is looking for some treatment (conventional or alternative medicine) that may help controlling or slowing down the growth rate of the tumour, if not reducing its size. He is willing to be a subject on new drug trials/research if there is a chance of success. — Any research/therapy/ideas that may control the growth of this rare Leiomyosarcoma in the pelvic bed. — Any developmental drugs/alternative medicine program to control sarcoma growth that need trial patient to test on this type of cancer. — Any alternative treatments that may slow/control the cancer growth –Any information/advice that may control the cancer growth If not, please at least spread this message around. Thanks in advance and we greatly appreciate your effort :-) !
