Yes I know what you mean. I have had severe back problems for some time. I recently had a serious fall backwards and hit my mid and lower back on some fiberglass seats. I have had , and still do have numbness in my right leg with seious pain. My left leg is beginning to act the same way. Also since the fall, my left hand and fingers are going numb. I have had xrays and mri. I already knew i had defromed base of my spine with degenerative disc disease, but since the last tests, I have found out that the disease has spread further, have bulging disks in areas I cant remember, as mi wife has the report. My doc wants to put me on total disability, but I own my own business, so at this tome I elect not to go disabled. I have very serious pain from it sid. I also have the spasms and cringing pain, which at times I scream out in pain when it hits me, sometimes frightening my employees, or my wife. I try just to stay on vicoden es as needed, but at this time am on dilaudid for a short term to try and control the agonizing pain I feel in both legs and back. The dpressing thing, is knowing there is no surgical cure, and I am going to have to live like this the rest of my life, and I am only 45. So I feel for you, and others in the same predicamate. I know there are those of you out there a lot worse off than me, but alll I can say is I take it one day at a time, and hope I can still get up and walk the next day Mark

Sid, & JC, too I guess my feeling on Chiropractors is that they have a place in modern medicine, but, like so many other things today, we each have to decide for ourselves what we want to use them for. I’ve obviously not had the negative experiences you guys apparently have had. I believe they can and do help with structural problems. For instance, my husband has a rib that occasionally goes out, causing him quite a bit of pain and makes it difficult to breathe. He goes to the chiro to have the rib put back. One visit does the trick, as opposed to conventional medicines offer of pain killers and muscle relaxers. Quicker and cheaper. He also has a rotary cuff injury (shoulder), which he gets ultrasound and treatments similar to TENS (can’t remember what it is called). With about three months treatments, he was able to avoid the surgery that conventional medicine told him was the ONLY answer. He occasionally has trouble with it, but nothing like a few friends who opted for the surgery continue to have. I would question ANY physician who asked me to sign a contract agreeing to "X" number of visits, and to only see him/her for treatment. I DO have a verbal contract with my Pain Doc not to get pain meds from anyone else. If I break this ‘contract’, he will no longer treat me. I don’t have a problem with that, since he needs to know exactly what I am taking for my pain in order to treat me effectively. JC, you rant about us being ‘taken over’, and not being allowed to think for ourselves, yet you flame anyone who doesn’t agree with YOU. I do think for myself. I have opinions based on my own experiences. Don’t expect all of us to agree with you on this point, and kindly refrain from personal attacks on me because I don’t agree. Thanks. — Nancy – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> Hi…thanks for the reply…i think theres quite a few causes of sciatica… > when i look at my MRI can literally see the herniation pressing on the cord > so i think the disk is to blame in this case… > As for chiro…ive ranted a few times on the illogical nature of the "science" > often on these newsgroups….just the fact that the chiro mindset was started by > a guy(palmer) who "decided" his version of anatomy made sense to him > and that the meaningless term "sublaxation" was the root of alot of major > illness shows me that the chiro industry started out as a snake oil venture from > day one…of course chiro later took on a more scientific approach > to anatomy later on its its evolution .but the sad fact is chiro has become a > major money making industry …taking full advantage of the > people who fell thru the medical cracks in this country… (snipped) > rant done…;) > Sid Lipkin

People, This is a response to sell a product but ya’ all are describing what I have. I have had sciatica problems, I have scoliosis, and had a herniated disc. The first thing I did was crunches (not sit-ups). I do about 3-500/day. It really helps get that lower back area which is a focal point for a lot of pain in the extremities. Secondly I am using Tectonic Magnets and WOW!!! have they helped. I use the computer about 11 hours a day (no prblems), my back is great and sleep is now normal. Please take a look at http://www.das-mall.com/tectonic/index.htm. It has helped me and maybe can help you as well. Have a great day and hope to hear from you soon. My sentiments exactly. Tectonic magnets? Get real. Mary Lou
