puppies in the water
Question:
My dog’s chiropractor told me not to worry about the cold water. He said that even my paralyzed (hind quarters) old boy would be able to handle the cold long enough for a bit of fun in the water. Your dog will stop going in the water when he gets tired of playing in it. Then he will shake himself off and you should play beach games to help him stay warm. I wouldn’t give it a second thought unless I was going to the North Pole and planning to camp on the ice.
Response:
My husband and I were planning on taking our dogs to the beach this weekend. We are in Houston and the day temps are in the 50s or low 60s. Nika is a 2 1/2 yr old GSD who I know will be fine, even if the water is freezing. She absolutely LOVES the cold! My concern is about our 5 month old Dutch Shepherd pup. He is a bit thinner coated (no double coat like the GSD) and he seems to love sleeping by the heater (unlike Nika who likes cold wood floors!) Do you think it will be too cold for him? Any precautions I should take (we will of course take lots of towels and blankets for drying off and warming up) Thanks for your input! Unfortunately, the only time we CAN take them to the beach is in the winter, or there are too many people there. — Diane "I do whatever my Rice Krispies tell me to"
